According to his Twitter account, Northwest Missouri State defensive end Travis Chappelear has agreed to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Gonna be a Cincinnati Bengal!!— travis chappelear (@chap98) April 28, 2013
Coming out of a small school, Chappelear didn't receive much attention until his pro day, where he lit it up in front of NFL scouts. Chappelear has great size for a defensive end at 6'5" and 275 pounds and really fits the mold that defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer covets. Moreover, he appears to also have the strength and speed necessary to survive in the NFL. According to an article from the Maryville Daily Forum, Chappelear turned in a reported 4.7 40-yard dash time, added a 37 inch vertical jump, and put up an amazing 38 reps on the bench press--numbers good enough for the top five in some cases at the NFL scouting combine.
If Chappelear can put it together in Zimmer's defense, they might have found a real diamond in the rough.
