Texans draft Jadeveon Clowney #1; Rams grab Greg Robinson at #2

Texans nab Jedeveon Clowney while Rams snag Greg Robinson.

Once the Houston Texans decided to keep the No. 1 overall pick and not trade it elsewhere, it was inevitable that South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney was going to be the first selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.

They took him with the top pick, and he joins the likes of defensive end Mario Williams and quarterback David Carr to go No. 1 overall to the Texans.

Hopefully, Clowney will have a far more memorable career with the Texans than those two had.

Others who watched Clowney's tape, like retired NFL defensive end Stephen White, loved what they saw with minor caveats.

In many ways, I'm pretty puzzled (and somewhat disappointed) as to how Clowney could have played that much in college and still be this raw technique-wise. It's also because he is still so raw that makes him so attractive as the top overall pick. Unless we find out that Clowney repeatedly refused to learn new things, he should be viewed as a ball of clay just waiting to be molded into an ass-kicking, pass-rushing monster.

With the 2nd pick, the St. Louis Rams took Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson, whom NFL Network's Mike Mayock compared to former Rams tackle Orlando Pace, who's likely going to be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday.

The Rams have a bit of shuffling to do along the line to figure out where Robinson will fit. Adam Schefter reports that the team will try him at left guard, but Turf Show Times notes the coaches will just be happy to have someone of his talent in-house.

The Rams have shored up the offensive line by dding the physicality and aggression Robinson has shown to the depth chart. There's a question as to where he fits in withJake Long recovering from his injury that took him out of the starting left tackle spot and Joe Barksdale having filled in well. Nevertheless, the coaching staff and especially offensive line coach Paul T. Boudreau will be eager to get GRob into camp and make immediate use of the Auburn product.
