David Pollack Injury

More on David Pollack: Fractured C-6 Vertebrae

The doctor released details about David Pollack's injury.

"The main thing is he does have a C-6 (vertebra) fracture," said Dr. Anthony Guanciale, director of orthopedic spine surgery at University of Cincinnati Hospital.

"His fracture was mild to moderate. His neurological status is normal. He has no spinal cord involvement or injury."

...

"The halo is the most stable brace because it allows no movement," Guanciale said. "How (the bone) heals and if it is stable are the big things. There will be a big evaluation in about nine months."

Also, Mark Curnutte confirmed the e-mail from David's wife was legit even though Marvin Lewis said point blank, "don't follow a rumor."

It's official: Pollack out for season, "neck injury"

Update [2006-9-18 18:6:13 by Kirkendall]:: Since no confirmation was made regarding Pollack's injury, other than it being a "neck injury", I think you should take the below letter as a grain of salt. Believe it. Or not. It's on Mark's blog; so I imagine it has some form of oversight being allowed to remain. But since no confirmation was made, I just advise you to be cautious on the information being distributed regarding Pollack's injury.

Mark Curnutte reports:

David Pollack will be placed on the injured reserve list, which ends his season as a player, after breaking his neck during the Bengals game Sunday.

The second-year linebacker suffered a severe neck trauma when he hit Browns running back Reuben Droughns in the shoulder pad with the top of his helmet early in the first quarter.

Pollack will be placed on Injured Reserve during the week.

Damn.

Update [2006-9-18 15:26:22 by Kirkendall]:: Let me emphasis that it was NOT confirmed as a broken neck by Marvin -- but if you know Marvin, you know what he says and what happens can be two completely different things. Also, Bengals starting center Rich Braham and strong safety, Dexter Jackson, are both out Sunday against the Steelers.

I truly hope that he can get back on the saddle; not for football, but for his own life and family. Get well David. Don't worry about the team; they'll rally around you now.

Broken vertebrae?

There's concern that David Pollack MAY have broken a vertebrae in his neck. I'm sure we'll hear more during this afternoon's press conference. There's a lot of concern about his injury and if it will be "life changing".

This afternoon's press conference should detail the injuries with updates.

UPDATE: Found this at Mark Curnutte's blog -- a letter from Pollack's wife. Here's a paragraph.

Davey did break his neck- I hate how that sounds though. He fractured his C6, for those of you who know what that is, but he is so blessed to have feeling everywhere! The doctors have put him in a Halo brace to stabilize him. He is able to move from the chest down, so he can sit up, eat, walk, etc. Right now we are just in a waiting period. We won't know for a little bit whether surgery has to be an option or not. We are hopeful that he won't have to have surgery and that he will be able to wear the brace and the bone repair itself. We just have to wait and see how his neck responds to the Halo for the next week or so.
