Do you have a problem with teams running up the score?

Ah, they found it. A controversy. I know, a controversy in the NFL. Who would have thunk it? You never put it by those quick observers that favor controversy over acceptance. And why not? We enjoy some controversial banter enabling us to take both sides of the argument. It's why politics can be emotional and sometimes addictive. And it's complete coincidence that politics and ad-DICK-tive are in the same sentence. Dude, you're rambling. Indeed.

The controversy, this week, children, is "running up the score". Personally I see no logic keeping your starters in during the fourth quarter with a minimum three touchdown lead. That does not apply to teams playing the Colts on Monday Night Football. Well, actually the Colts at all. It's the same argument you've heard the past few days. And we all agree that Bill Belichick is giving the big finger to everyone else in response to spygate. His reasoning -- "think the championships are tainted?" -- are understood, but keeping a low profile has never been Belichick's strongest attribute.

With that said, I will provide NO sympathy votes for grown men, playing 3.5 quarters of a single game (by my count, getting paid for 2.5 hours of work) allowing the score to be run up against them right before they charter their private jet off to some exotic island because the level of disrespect was worse than the heat of the sun. OK, I'm being rough. But you get my point. It's the $$$ argument I'm making in this simple paragraph. Randall Godfrey's base salary gives him $12,812.50 per quarter. So, you know, earn it.

But in a way, we can understand. Sometimes life beats us all to a bloody, unrecognized, pulp that begs, craves, implores, pleads, supplicates, conjures and prays for mercy. On the other hand, we don't have to deal with the evil Belichick reign that makes Lord Waldemart or the encompassing eye of Sauron seem like preschool children. Dude, you're rambling. Indeed.

I will give credit where it's due. Indy Star's Bob Kravitz says what all beat reporters say when their team plays the Patriots. Kick their ass! Yea, throw me a beer. I'm with you, Bob.

But I see no reason to get bent out of shape because dominate-team-A beat down non-dominate-team-B. No, actually one argument sits with me. Its Joe Gibbs. Some question Belichick's class beating down a Joe Gibbs team -- one of the classiest, respected and established head coaches in NFL history. That, I can accept. Gibbs has earned the respect that Godfrey demands of Belichick. That, I accept.

To hit a little closer to home, think of it this way. Who would you be more angry with? The Bengals or the other team? What do you guys think? Do you have a problem with teams that run up the score?

The Redskins? Classy?
Take it from me.  If you lived in the DC Metropolitan Area and were subjected to the barrage of fawning, slobbering, homerish, slanted, biased local sports reports every week, you would enjoy an embarrasing Redskins loss like a fine wine or a Cuban cigar.  Redskins losses are to be savored; in fact, Redskins losses are pretty much how I get through the Sundays when the Bengals lose.  Redskins victories actually drive me away from the TV for fear I'd be hypnotized by the incessant droning of the idiot local media and "color commentators" like Sonny "Drunk on the Air" Jurgenson.

The Redskins win the Super Bowl every March, and the drumbeat continues until they miss, or fizzle out in, the playoffs.  Steve Spurrior was touted as coach of the year and destined for Super Bowl greatness when he won his first few games a couple years ago -- how'd that turn out?

The fans are obnoxious and delusional.  Like two years ago, when the Redskins lucked into the playoffs and somehow won two games to make it to the Championship game

- Carson Palmaer actually threw for more yards on his one completion to Henry (Before Kimo von Knee Diver swept the leg) than Mark Brunell did in the entire wildcard game.  Their defense also scored on two BS turnover returns for TDs (in one play, the defensive player was clearly down by contact; the other, Lavar Arrington fumbled the ball prior to being down, but the referees did not overturn the calls on the field).  They still nearly lost, taking a Tampa player dropping a sure TD at the end of the game to survive.

Factor in that Sean Taylor has a checkered history that compares with Chris Henry's and the NFL failed to suspend him.  Also consider he has been fined by the NFL on more than one occasion for spitting on his opponents (to include the incident a few years ago when he spit in TJ Houshmandzadeh's face while calling him a racial slur for Middle Eastern people).

Furthmore, consider that the Redskins fan base primarily comprises rich suburbia (the same suburbites that elect to live in the suburbs but continue to work in the district, leaving the DC government without a tax base to speak of to fund schools, infrastructure, et alia).  Go to South East DC and you'll actually find a lot of Cowboys fans - the 'skins heated rival - because of the resentment for the suburban fan base.

And finally, their name is a racial slur.  I don't consider myself a PC nut, but "Redskin" is a little different than "Brave," "Indian," or specific native tribes like the Seminoles or the Illini.  They were also the last team to desegregate...

I do agree Joe Gibbs is a classy guy.  Too bad he's on a classless organization.

Don't even get me started on the Ravens...

I have no problem with final scores...
I figure that they are all profesionals doing their job, why should they quit? Of course the winning team is taking a chance on starters getting hurt, but that is a crap shoot anyway, might as well let em play.

Besides, until I see the losing team starting to put their 2nd string defense in, I say keep playing your first string offense.

And of course, if a team ever came back on the Bengals after we put in our second string, we would never forgive them for "giving it away".

RE:
Well, we know that Tom Brady won't get hurt. No one comes close to touching him.

Another thought about the Patriots running the score up. Do they even have the running backs available -- healthy mind you -- that could just, play after play, take the pounding. They have one that's just return from injury and another sitting right now.
