Cleaning up notes after Thanksgiving

The Titans travel to Paul Brown Stadium for Thanksgiving weekend following back-to-back losses to Jacksonville and Denver giving up 332 yards rushing (ironically, 166 per game). Vince Young, with a 2-6 touchdown to interception ratio in the past three games, hasn't been the come-from-behind quarterback he was his rookie season. The Bengals offense sports the fifth best offense against the league's fourth best defense.

Kevin Goheen takes time to remember the Bengals largest win in franchise history -- against the Houston Oilers.

Sam Wyche sent in kicker Jim Breech for a field goal attempt with 21 seconds remaining in a game against the Houston Oilers in 1989.

The Bengals were leading 58-7 at the time.

Given that Wyche had called for an onside kick against the Oilers, a hated rival of the Bengals in the old AFC Central division with an equally detested head coach in Jerry Glanville, Breech's field goal wasn't much of a surprise. The 61-7 win is still the largest margin of victory in Cincinnati's franchise history.

Bengals fans show thanks.

The Freestore Foodbank has a lot more food now thanks to Bengals fans who attended Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Organizers said fans donated 11,099 pounds, or just over 5.5 tons of non-perishable and canned goods, which was an increase of 5,460 pounds over the 2006 collection. In addition, fans gave $12,424 in cash donations to help feed the Greater Cincinnati community.

The Columbus Dispatch's Bill Rabinowitz examines five things the Bengals are thankful for.

  1. Carson Palmer signed through 2014.
  2. No one arrested for awhile (the echoes of wood-knocking heard throughout the state of Ohio).
  3. T.J. Houshmandzadeh
  4. Steve McNair
  5. Good draft pick for 2008

"He just adds stability. It's like being married. You know what ticks your wife off and you know what makes her feel good. It's just a comfort level. Obviously they've changed players but guys on the team tend to know what things are going to be like, how he is after losses and wins, his demeanor. He doesn't change his approach."
- John Thornton on Jeff Fisher, his head coach from 1999-2002 in Tennessee.

"He finds the strengths and weaknesses of that quarterback and the guys around him and builds an offense around their strengths and covers up a lot of weaknesses. His timing of play calls is great. He does a bunch of different screens. Whether it's tight end, a wide receiver, a halfback, he's very unpredictable. He's done a great job obviously with Vince helping him along in his career and doing a great job with that offense."
- Carson Palmer on his former coach, Norm Chow, now offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans.

What's wrong with Chad?
