Manic Marvin and the off season roster

After hearing Marvin's interview the other day left me a little depressed. I was afraid we were going to continue getting the same unwavering approach that got us here. But after reading that he now wants to blow everything up, I'm a little more encouraged. I think Chuck has to go. But, with the mini-resurgence of the D and Marvin's refusal to get involved, I think he'll be back riding the injury excuse. I would hope Brat would be gone. But, I think past success would keep him here. When you have a divisional, arch-rival saying that your team doesn't know how to make adjustments, to me, that would put them out the door. Obviously, that coach already has your team figured out and you don't stand a chance.

Maybe, Marvin was told by Brown that changes can be made and that's what prompted Lewis to change his statements. I hope a GM and a boosted scouting staff are in the mix.

On the roster side: Dayton Daily published a list of possible cuts and FAs: Eleven unrestricted free agents (UFAs) populate the roster. They are defensive ends Justin Smith and Bryan Robinson; linebackers Landon Johnson, Dhani Jones, Lemar Marshall and Caleb Miller; free safety Madieu Williams; offensive tackle Stacy Andrews; center Alex Stepanovich; wide receiver Antonio Chatman; and punter Kyle Larson.

Four others with high 2008 price tags -- defensive tackle John Thornton ($3.5 million), tailback Rudi Johnson ($3.2 million), cornerback Deltha O'Neal ($1.6 million) and strong safety Dexter Jackson ($1.3 million) -- could be cut for salary cap reasons.

I wonder if both Williams and Jackson will be gone. It looks like the staff likes Ndukewe and White. I think Thornton will stick. Letting him go makes too many holes if you are talking about turnover in so many other places. I think Rudi will be back, too. Again, the draft and FA can plug other holes like LB, possibly DE and OL, WR, and added safety depth.
