Shaun Rogers no-trade was over a $1 million roster bonus?
As it seems now, the Bengals never really made the trade official and even blamed inaccurate media sources for the confusion, even AFTER the league confirmed the trade.
"The club never announced anything on this," said Bengals public relations director Jack Brennan. "It was reported incorrectly from other sources. There are numerous trade discussions for every trade that actually takes place."
So, we're idiots, I suppose, even after this bit from Bengals.com -- the "official" Bengals website:
You won't find that on the page anymore that it was linked to because it was erased and replaced to report that the trade didn't really happen. I suppose, Jack, that the article never really existed, but they are written all the time.
All this was apparently over a $1 million roster bonus. Was the bonus an issue that the team didn't think they should pay while the league said they should? Why even attempt the trade if this "language" isn't, you know, looked at? Was it that the Bengals said no to the trade after it was confirmed because of this roster bonus so they never made it official? Sounds like the Bengals, doesn't it?
Wouldn't the roster bonus be void if he's not on the roster that his team played for? Why was no time given so the Bengals could work out a new deal and void the old one? Shouldn't that be an exception? I don't doubt that an exception of sorts would be given to Jerry Jones, Bob Kraft or Daniel Snyder.
But I'm also not convinced that the Bengals didn't set this colossal embarrassing failure of a simple trade on themselves. Keep in mind, the issue here isn't necessarily Shaun Rogers. It's incompetence of the front office.
And Jack. Try to downplay the entire thing all you want. All that you do is continue to guide us to the thought that the Bengals front office are completely lost.

Rogers Deal
Everyone knows that Cincy needed and needs to bolster their DL and eveyone has posted a message previously about that need. There are a couple of methods that Cincy could have used to do so.
- goes after Free Agents or pull off some trade or multiple trades in order to get it done or.....
- package a trade so that they could gain draft choices and load up in the upcoming draft.
Simply put, if you wanted Rodgers then you should have done what was necessary in order to get him. Cincy failed in this and one has to wonder if there is and chance that based on the fiasco that anyone out there in NFL land doesn't know what Cincy is wanting to do or the position players that they are looking to get?
This is yet another bungled event by Cincinnati management and this one may hurt all of us. I just checked the NFL board and I see where Cleveland did almost exactly what Cincy needs to do. Point is that Cleveland has landed to highly respectable DLM and also WR Stalworth from NE. Although they don't have draft choices for the upcoming draft the wonderment is that we may be looking at the Browns as being the next division champion plus we may be looking at the Bengals to be in the cellar for the next couple of years.
I not trying to be a protaganist here but I feel the mind trust at Cincy is highly suspect. Note that you can't be sleeping at the controls when Free Agenct hits and if you have ideas on making a deal in Free Agency then you have to be able to deliver.
In short, Cincy has failed itself and failed it's fans. This is almost the same thing that Daugherty has brought to our attention in his messages saying that the same thing happens over and over and the management of Cincy will never change. In a sense I see Cincy is always being a day late and a dollar short and I have to wonder if they will even be competitive for the next couple of years.
I also wonder greatly how other teams have the money to be able to make deals for Free Agents while Cincy cannot. Is the team taxed by having too much talent on offense. Or are they challenged greatly of not having anyone in management that knows what they are doing.
On the flip side of all of this is that I see 2 of Cincy's free agents sign quickly to other teams. Again one has to wonder if players are anxious to get out of Cincinnati.
It's hard to be a fan when a team is this blind or cheap or ignorant.

re: ....details from Ludwig......
I also think that Cincy doesn't know it but Cleveland has declared war on Cincy. Maybe I'm wrong on this and maybe it was Cincy that was trying to do a payback and snatch Rodgers from them.
Right now what the team is faced with is the loss of a DE and a Saftey within hours of the start of free agency. Cincy also has the reputation of losing out on the trade to the Browns.
I like Ludwig and think that he's a good reporter and one has to wonder why he has the story when Cincy didn't have it and even the teams website didn't have it.
Of course one last thought on Rodgers was his record. Seems he fits right in with the scenario of Mike Brown of picking up second chance guys and guys with questionable reputations.
The whole thing just boggles the mind.
