Mark Curnutte writes that Glenn Holt signed his one-year contract worth $445,000 -- minimum for exclusive rights players (less than three NFL seasons). Holt could become the biggest benefactor with Tab Perry's departure to Miami as well as the unknown future of Chad Johnson.

Holt is the sixth wide receiver signed for 2008 (Chad, T.J., Henry, Chatman and Maxwell) and the likely candidate as the primary kickoff returner. Last season, Holt returned 59 kickoffs for 1,432 yards -- including a 100-yard touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in the second quarter to take a one-point lead into Half Time.

Holt had the second best kickoff return season in team history. His 59 kickoff returns is second only to Tab Perry's 64 (2005). Note: I have no illusions about it. The more kickoff returns, the more the defense stinks. Holt's 1,432 kickoff return yards is second to, you got it, Tab Perry's 1,562 (2005).

Chris Henry
Antonio Chatman

Marcus Maxwell

What that list adds up to.

Given Chad's infantile regression of late, doubts about Henry's attitude/effort, doubts about Chapman's hamstrings/groin, doubts about Holt's ability to hold on to the ball, and doubts about whether Maxwell is even an NFL caliber player, that leaves us with TJ and seems to obligate us to use a first day pick on a wide-out. #9 is way too early for any of those available. It would probably take a move up in Round 2 to get one of the prizes- Kelly, Hardy, or Sweed. At least we've got Utecht...
