Second round pick coming in SB Nation draft
While news has been dreadfully slow, and we've discussed most of the team's position needs for the draft, believe it or not, we're still around. Pumped for the draft, are we? First things first, we have a second round in the Sports Blog Nation Mock Draft picking #46.
I'm thinking Wide Receiver. DeSean Jackson went to Tampa Bay (#20) and Devin Thomas to St. Louis (#33). That leaves Malcolm Kelly, Limas Sweed, Mario Manningham and James Hardy.
Thoughts?

Red Bryant?
If I went offense, I'd think running back. Chris Johnson or Kevin Smith.
Jackson
I'd rather have Jordy Nelson (Kansas St.) or James Hardy (IND). Although with Hardy's domestic violence charge, we might want to steer clear of him. I'd like to avoid any more crazy in our WR corps. Do people think Hardy can be as good as Plaxico or is there no chance of that?
Some other good players options at other positions (not WR) are:
DT (if we don't get Ellis) - Pat Sims, Trevor Laws,
OT - Sam Baker, Anthony Collins, Carl Nicks
OLB - Xavier Adibi, Erin Henderson
We won't

WR
However, I think goff could be onto something also. Just doesn't seem like a deep pool of WR we need to worry about in the second.
Would you guys prefer another position?

For Manningham...
Anyway...in round 1, I think we have to take the best player available between Dorsey, Ellis, Gholston, Rivers and Harvey (I think that's the order that we'd want them). Then, if we don't get a D. Tackle in round 1, we should draft one in Round 2. If we do get a D. Tackle in round 1, we should take the best player available at LB, DE, WR and maybe OT.
Chris Johnson...
Otherwise, though it's early for him, I like Dexter Jackson, a smallish, lightning fast receiver out of App. State- with the added bonus that he torched the Michigan secondary twice for scores last September. Manningham's running mate, Adrian Arrington might not be a bad get.
Still, a LB- even if we get Ellis(and please god, let us get Ellis) might actually be the wise choice. Curtis Lofton, Jerod Mayo, Xavier Adibi, or Erin Henderson- in that order should the first two fall that far. I've heard too much about Bryant taking plays off to want to go second round on him. Quentin Groves, should he be available, would be a real steal there as well.
Okay, if we get Ellis(or Dorsey), then taking a flyer on Chris Johnson sounds doable.
If, however, we don't- and come away with Rivers or Hardy, then Groves or, more likely, Trevor Laws sounds like the proper course.

DL
DTs
Gholston, Harvey, Merlin, Campbell and Groves are also off the board.
With that, do you guys want to go with Hardy at WR?

Not sold on Hardy
I realize this is a mock draft, but I honestly don't think the Bengals would pick Hardy because of his assault charge. He also was suspended by the coach for reasons not related to the assault charge. That being said, he is a relative steal in that he is a first round talent going have way through the second round--but the Bengals have said that before.
What about Early Doucet? It is not going to be a deep threat, but we need guys with good hands who can catch passes on third and 7. His scouting report indicates he's elusive after the catch. Maybe we could pick up a speedster later (William Frankin? Arman Shields?)
Another guy to think about at RB would be Matt Forte.
OK, no Hardy

I like it...
Don't forget
6-5, 275 and a 4.6-4.7 40 in the late(6th,7th) rounds.
