An old friend returns to area sports talk.

Remember Andy Furman? That guy that called T.J. Houshmandzadeh a "racist"? Remember him? As Carol Anne famously echoed, "he's back!" Or was it "he's here"? It doesn't matter. Furman will return to Cincinnati radio with the new "SupertalkFM" radio station hosting a sports program from 4-7 p.m. He will compete with Stats-God Lance McAlister (1530, 3-6 p.m.) and blown-all-his-blood-vessels-Tom Gamble (700WLW, 6-9). Furman's old gig is now Gamble's.

When most people express their feelings on Andy Furman, it's usually very heated. He says some things that will create a dramatic reaction from his callers -- some say it's a ratings ploy.

In other local area radio shows news.

You haven't heard Jeff Piecoro's voice on 1530 much -- and if you have, a catscan would be highly recommended. Clear Channel (owner of 1530, WEBN and WLW) recently (like a month ago) fired Piecoro to reduce staffing at eight of their radio stations. Greg Waddell was also dumped.

Just goes to show, if you get hired and paid to do sports all day, you run the risk of getting fired. However, as a blogger, we're pretty much safe -- though we have five jobs during the day just to make ends meet.
