After Justin Smith signed his one-year franchise contract, Bengals.com reported that the team is close to signing Kenderick Allen -- a 6'5", 330-pound defensive tackle. Allen's agent, Harold Lewis, said both sides have agreed to a one-year deal.
UPDATING THE ROSTER
Once the team submits the contract to the league office, the Bengals will have six defensive tackles on roster -- Sam Adams, John Thornton, Michael Myers, Domata Peko, Allen and sixth-round pick, Matt Toeaina (provided he's signed).
QUICK ALLEN HISTORY
Allen, undrafted out of LSU, started his NFL career on New Orleans' practice squad before making his first start nine games into his rookie season. The New York Giants claimed him off waivers right before sophomore season... Allen played 19 of 32 games for New York during a two-season stretch. Allen joined the Packers before 2006 but was quickly placed on injured reserve after two games into the season with a "foot injury".
Allen's Scout Inc. bio says:
LSU
Allen will become the sixth player on the Bengals roster from LSU -- Andrew Whitworth, Ben Wilkerson, Nate Livings, Skyler Green, Bennie Brazell and Allen.
