Irons feared to have suffered season-ending knee injury

UPDATE: Irons out for the year

The Bengals confirmed early this afternoon that rookie running back Kenny Irons tore his left ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and is out for the entire 2007 season. He will have surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, the Bengals said.

Late in the second quarter, Kenny Irons was slow after his fourth rush attempt of the game. At first, it appeared they were working on his ankle. He was then carted into the locker room with a "significant" left knee injury. He was on crutches after the game. Hobson says that the fear is "Irons suffered a season-ending knee injury". Irons is expected to have an MRI today to determine the extent of the injury.

Also injured Thursday was Jonathan Fanene. Curnutte said, at the time it happened, that he "appeared to injure a hamstring" in the third quarter. Curnutte then said that a "medical report at the start of the fourth quarter listed the problem as muscle cramps". He was carted off the field.
