Bengals looking at Cardinals linebacker Brandon Johnson

The Bengals appear to be addressing an often overlooked aspect of football. Special teams. With Darryl Blackstock in the mixed after "officially" signing Friday, the Bengals are prepared to pick up another Cardinal's linebacker, Brandon Johnson, writes Geoff Hobson.

This is likely the period that a team builds their roster well beyond the limits to create a large group of players the Bengals will later judge to be beneficial to the team. It's just as likely that Blackstock and Johnson, if he's signed, are cut from the team simply because other players perform better during camps. The Marvin Lewis era Bengals have signed veteran players only to cut them before opening weekend.

If the Bengals sign Johnson, and if he survives cuts, then he'd likely become a special teams player -- like Blackstock.
