The fifth pick in the inaugural edition of the Cincy Jungle Mock Draft is brought to us by member Mr. NC-17, selecting for the Kansas City Chiefs. His explanation for the pick is after the jump. Thank you for your participation Mr. NC-17.
With the fifth pick in the 2010 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select...
Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State.
Will the Chiefs make this move if somehow Okung falls to their laps? I don't know. They could look at a playmaker in Eric Berry who would still be on the board, or they could look at Dez Bryant, but after his mediocre pro day, I think that is a no.
The reason is simple on why you draft a player like Russell Okung if you are the Chiefs. Matt Cassel. You MUST protect the quarterback in this league. You must allow your team to have a chance when they step on the field, and protecting the franchise quarterback is key.
Russell Okung to me is not merely one of the best tackles, he is the best tackle in the draft. With Kansas City finally finding a breakout star in Jamal Charles at Running back, this makes it even more of a key.
This move will really help balance the left side of the line. Considering a former high draft pick in Brandon Albert, has never really reached his potential at tackle, and is more hailed as a guard. You draft Okung, you move Albert to LG, and right now you are building your offensive line, similar to the Cleveland Browns, when they selected Joe Thomas after signing Eric Steinbach.
Chiefs have a lot of holes, but brick by brick, and pick by pick you can get back to the playoffs, and drafting Okung is a step in the right direction.
