A federal judge in the Southern District of Ohio rejected an attempt by the Cincinnati Bengals to block several of their former players from filing or collecting workers’ compensation claims in California for injuries sustained while with the team. The Bengals said that the players’ contracts required them to file any claims in Ohio. California is the only state with a workers’ compensation system that lets retired professional athletes file claims for long-term injuries sustained on the field years before as long as they played at least one game in the state.
