According to the Bengals twitter account (should I come up with cooler phrase than that?), the team signed offensive lineman Isaac Sowells on Tuesday. Selected in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Browns, Cleveland finally cut Sowells leading up to the final cutdown day on September 4, 2009 after playing 17 career games (16 of them in 2008).
Geoff Hobson calls the acquisition simply a numbers game:
With guard Jason Shirley feared lost for the season with a ruptured Achilles, center Jonathan Luigs (hip) not expected on the field until training camp, and right tackle Andre Smith coming off foot surgery, the Bengals are looking to ease the number cruch.
Sowells sat out of football last season.
