The Daily Banter: Sometimes You Wonder If Life Isn't Complete Irony - Jay Mariotti Arrested For Felony

New, comments

ESPN personality (I hardly call him an analyst) Jay Mariotti was arrested over the weekend for beating the living crap out of his girlfriend. Well, that's a bit sensationalized, since Jay Mariotti tends to be the sensational type. The Los Angeles Times writes:

LAPD sources said Mariotti allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend at a club in Santa Monica.

The argument continued at the couple's apartment in Venice, where some type of physical altercation allegedly occurred. Police were called to the apartment, and Marioitti was arrested. He is currently being held at the 77th Street station.]

Mariotti is being booked on a felony charge.

Chad Tweets to Batman:

Holy jail time Batman, another ESPN analyst has been arrested, Jay Mariotti, lets see if they crucify their own like they do us

Mariotti has long ripped the Bengals for their character issues, regarding player acquisitions or players that were already on the team getting into trouble. I'm with Chad; how long before Mariotti is gone from ESPN and FanHouse. Any takers? ESPN has more character questions than the Cincinnati Bengals.

Dan LeBatard says "the facts aren't in", defending Mariotti, very unlike the athletes they cover, judging them with a hammered fist and a bunch of nonsense.

+ While Chad Ochocinco has been trying to find true love, the Bengals wide receiver has been dating VH1's Basketball Wives' Evelyn Lozada for months. VHI isn't happy at all, per TMZ.

But sources close to the couple tell TMZ ... VH1 is pissed at Ochocinco about the relationship -- since he's the star of a dating show that's currently airing on VH1! We're told the network doesn't like the "spoiler" that Ochocinco doesn't end up with anyone on the show.

+ The Bengals enjoyed practicing in front of 13,000 fans at Welcome Stadium on Sunday. Though the Dayton Daily News puts that number closer to 15,000. While it was nice that the Bengals reached out to their northern neighbors, Chick Ludwig suspects that the move was a test to see if Dayton would be the team's next home for Training Camp.

The Bengals got practice going...

On the first play from scrimmage, Ochocinco — flanked wide left — took a handoff on an end-around, stopped and launched a deep pass down the right sideline to Owens, who made a leaping catch as he wrestled the ball away from left cornerback Johnathan Joseph for a 70-yard touchdown.

+ Geoff Hobson writes that we shouldn't sleep on Rico Murray.

He also plays cornerback and runs around on teams at high intensity. The fact he’s a swing guy is interesting. Could they keep just nine DBs, now, if they kept Murray? They would still have the magical number of six corners if they count Murray as a safety and count five others at corner.

+ Chad reiterated his trash talking against Baltimore on Twitter having a nice chat with Carmelo Anthony.

"Bruh don't get to [sic] excited we [will] smash the Ravens, I owe Ray Lewis big time, I won't lose across the middle this time."
