There are rumors that the Bengals will make slight changes with the coaching staff soon. How slight? No one knows for sure; anyone that claims to know the working mind of the front office should not pass Go, shouldn't collect $200, and meander through Arkham's front doors.
Unless of course, you believe Mike Brown when he says that Marvin Lewis has "real control over his area." From the legendary press conference over three weeks ago, Mike Brown said:
It isn’t as though I’m dictating and Marvin’s a puppet – that is not the way it works. He does have real control – not influence, control – over his area, and that should be understood. That’s not a bad thing, it’s a good thing. I see it that way. He wants it that way, and that’s the way it is.
So then. Lewis should be able to make his own decisions, right? Raise your hands if you believe this. Go ahead. Don't be shy. Forget your deodorant? It's alright. Cup your other hand around your armpit. It's cool. No one? Not a single person?
Regardless, according to Geoff Hobson, the announcement for the team's coaching staff should be made within the next couple of days.
The next few days should yield an announcement. The Bengals aren't the only ones in the division rustling around on offense as the Ravens shuffle their staff. Would that be enough to appease Palmer if there's change? Brown says Palmer didn't make him aware of any specific complaints.
We would say that this announcement could be the straw that broke the camel's back. But we think the camel's back was broken several weeks ago.
