Bengals middle linebacker Rey Maualuga showed up on Thursday's injury report with an ankle. He didn't show up on the practice field on Friday. According to multiple beat writers, head coach Marvin Lewis said that middle linebacker Rey Maualuga sprained his ankle and will not play against the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday. Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com added that it "looks like" it could be a couple of weeks. Backup middle linebacker Dan Skuta will start in his place this Sunday.
Lewis said of Skuta, "He's an undrafted guy who really has basically flourished in every opportunity he has been given. We felt very comfortable that he can step in."
Maualuga has missed two games during his young NFL career after fracturing his left ankle against the Kansas City Chiefs in week 16 during his rookie year. Impressively he logged four tackles in eight defensive snaps before leaving the game. He missed the regular season finale against the New York Jets and the following playoff game against the same team.
Maualuga posted 40 tackles in the four games this year, including a forced fumble against the San Francisco 49ers.
