Rey Maualuga reportedly suffered a sprained ankle during practice on Thursday that kept the starting middle linebacker from playing during Cincinnati's 27-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Dan Skuta started in his place, recording five tackles Sunday afternoon. Initial reports suggested that Maualuga could miss more time than just this past Sunday and beyond this weekend's bye week.
According to multiple sources, Maualuga is currently sporting a cast on his ankle as he reportedly avoided the media on Monday.
The team's starting middle linebacker will benefit somewhat having a bye week this weekend to rehabilitate. There's currently no known timetable when Maualuga will return and it could be something that lasts several weeks, on the surface of how things appear.
Keith Rivers (along with Adam Jones) is scheduled to come off the Physically Unable to Perform list this week and a decision will have to be made within the next three weeks before the team is forced to either activate him on the 53-man roster, release him or place him on Injured Reserve (an option we keep hearing as being the most likely).
