With just under six minutes left in the game, the Cincinnati Bengals converted their first third down of the game on third-and-one from the Bills 38-yard line with 5:47 left in the first quarter. Chris Pressley destroyed the outside linebacker, opening the gap for Cedric Benson to pick up eight yards behind the left side of the line. The drive began with consecutive Bernard Scott runs for nine yards.
And the Bernard Scott hour continued. On first-and-five after a five-yard encroachment penalty, Dalton dumped off a pass to Scott for a four-yard gain to the Bills 45-yard line. Scott picked up seven yards on consecutive runs off the right side of the line setting up a third down from the Bills 13-yard line.
Then with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Dalton takes the shotgun snap on third and five, fakes down the right side and tries to hit A.J. Green near the front right pylons. The pass was overthrown and the Bengals convert a 31-yard Mike Nugent field goal to take a 3-0 lead.
Clint Boling was in on the drive at right guard.
