Bengals rookie quarterback Andy Dalton was nominated for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for the second straight week. And for the second straight week, Dalton lost out to San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith as the fan votes were tallied, which is how the award is won. Dalton has been nominated three times this year for the award (week two, five and six) while Bengals rookie wide receiver A.J. Green has also posted nominations in week four and five.
The San Francisco 49ers linebacker posted four tackles, two quarterback sacks, a safety and a forced fumble in a 25-19 win over the Detroit Lions; a game that was largely focused on the two head coaches more than the players and the game itself. Dalton converted 25 of 32 passes (78.1%) for 264 yards passing and a touchdown during Cincinnati's 27-17 win over the winless Indianapolis Colts. The Bengals are off this weekend, so the rookie award will have to wait another week.
