Bengals Name Paul Guenther As Assistant Defensive Backs Coach

On Monday the Bengals filled the position of wide receivers coach after Mike Sheppard left for Jacksonville to become the Jaguars quarterbacks coach. James Urban, with a west coast offense background, is the first of several coaching decisions made on Monday, including the vacant position of assistant defensive backs coach.

The Bengals named that assistant coach Paul Guenther will move from assistant linebackers coach to assistant defensive backs coach while still retaining his title of assistant special teams coach, a position he's held since 2006.

Since 2006, Guenther has been the team's assistant linebackers coach, as well as being an assistant special teams coach. See why it's just easier to call him an assistant coach? Guenther and Lewis' connection goes back to their Washington days, where Guenther worked as an assistant coach working with the running backs.

From 1997-2000, Guenther was the head coach at Ursinus College (Division III), where he was the youngest head coach in football at 25. His teams made the playoffs during his final two years.
