Around SB Nation: Rumor That Jon Gruden Is Replacing Andy Reid Are "Simply Not True"

When the Bengals hired Jay Gruden as their offensive coordinator, he was expected to be the only Gruden employed in the NFL in 2011. However, rumors began surfacing that Jon Gruden might be taking over as the Philadelphia Eagles head coach because Andy Reid was preparing to step down. Per Bleeding Green Nation:

Former Eagles fullback Kyle Eckel released posts on his Facebook and Twitter accounts stating that that former Buccaneers head coach John Gruden was in town and prepared to take over the reins as head coach of the Eagles. Then, citing unnamed sources, Ashley Zavala of NBC's KOMU-8 and Cody Benjamin of Bleed-Green.com added fuel to the fire, saying that Andy Reid was stepping down due to personal reasons and that Gruden would take over as soon as Tuesday.

The Philadelphia Eagles eventually released a statement on the rumor, saying "This was simply a rumor and there is no basis to it at all. It is simply not true"

Eckel later told 610-WIP that he was "merely having some fun with a few of his buddies when the rumor started.  He said he had no idea that it would become a 'wild fire' as Gargano accurately termed it." Really. In this day in age. You really had no idea that it would become "wild fire"?
