2011 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft - Round 2 - The Washington Redskins Select...

With pick No. 41 pick in the 2011 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, the Redskins select...

Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh

Just to preface, I believe Washington would consider trading out of this spot. They need linemen (both sides) and linebackers. There are good players available who fit, but those players are all reaches right now. If they traded to the bottom end of the second round and picked up an additional third-rounder, they could grab three linemen. With that possibility off the table in the CJ mock, the Redskins will instead draft Jonathan Baldwin, the wide receiver from Pitt. Most teams that draft a new quarterback want to immediately give him pass protection, and the Skins need a right tackle, but they took Trent Williams at the top of the 2010 draft, and he looks really good so far. Now, Mike Shanahan is going to give Blaine Gabbert a huge weapon in the red zone.

Once upon a time, Baldwin was considered one of the top prospects in this draft. His stock has fallen a little, but he's still a great value this late in the game. His technique is nearly flawless, and he has the size and athleticism you want in an NFL wide receiver. Baldwin's more of a possession guy, but that can still work out for a No. 1 receiver, a la Hines Ward and Brandon Marshall. He doesn't have game-breaking speed, but if Santana Moss sticks around, they won't need that so badly. Jonathan Baldwin has potential to wreak havoc for years to come if Blaine Gabbert is throwing him the ball, so this pick is really making more and more sense as I write about it. The Redskins are missing a lot of pieces, so even though they need linemen, they have got to take good value right now. They aren't going to get better value at a position of need with this pick than Jonathan Baldwin. He'll catch every ball thrown his way.

The Redskins still need to clean up their act on the offensive line, they still need a nose tackle, and they still need better pass rushers. But now they can pretty safely say that they have their QB-WR combo for the next generation of Washington football. Until Dan Snyder screws it up by overpaying for 40-year old free agents.
