Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA

In the first round, a lack of defensive value forced Gary Kubiak and Rick Smith to go offense and fill a need at receiver. Well it seems their patience has paid dividends as several first round prospects at defensive positions of need have fallen here. Now the challenge becomes which one to take? Martez Wilson, LB out of Illinois, could come in and immediately start at OLB and not only bolster the pass rush, but fit seemlessly into coverage packages, as he has had loads of experience doing while at Illinois. The only problem with taking Wilson here, is that Rahim Moore is still on the board.

Considered by most as the top safety prospect in this year's draft, Moore will come in and immediately take the place of Eugene Wilson, who was recently released, for, among other things, being downright terrible in coverage. This will do wonders for a very young cornerback tandem, in Glover Quin (age: 25) and Kareem Jackson (23), who got burnt repeatedly last year due to lack of an adequate safety presence behind them. Moore is a ball hawk in every sense of the expression, proven by his 10 interceptions during his 1st team all-american sophomore season. If UCLA had utilized him in a similar role last year, instead of pushing him closer to the line for run support, It is very possible that he would be hearing his name in the top half of the first round (Maybe even Texans at 11).

Houston still has some holes on defense, some of which can be addressed in free agency and later in the draft, but with Rahim Moore, a huge concern is lifted, and if Wade Phillips' 3-4 can generate some form of a pass rush up front, this overlooked and oft abused defense from 2010 could get dangerous in 2011 and beyond.
