Kendall Hunter, RB, Oklahoma State

This was probably the toughest decision for me to make. In the end, the Patriot still need to address the Offensive Guard position, but they also need to secure a competent complement to BenJarvus Green-Ellis. While I personally think Guard is a bigger need, I also can’t pass up on a running back that has been getting a lot of attention by the Pats, and that fell to a good point in the draft making him more desirable. Kendall Hunter, Mikel Leshoure and Jordan Todman have all been to New England to visit with the coaches and conduct private workouts. Mark Ingram and Mikel Leshoure are gone off the board already. Jordan Todman is a good back, and may still be around for a later pick, but he seems so similar to Green-Ellis that it doesn’t make as much sense as Hunter.

Sure the Patriots have Danny Woodhead. He’s a good back, but not what one would call explosive. I think the tandem of BenJarvus and Hunter would keep defenses guessing, especially with Hunter’s catching ability. Hunter has the build and motor to be the next Darren Sproles. He gives the Pats another option for return man as well, making him valuable for this season even if he doesn’t get much time in the backfield this year.
