Johnny Patrick, CB, Louisville

I see Carolina’s needs as D-line, QB, and Secondary. I know some see the QB as the largest need I just don’t feel this draft has a worthy prospect and that free agency is the best route to address that. So we addressed the need to upgrade the defensive line immediately with Nick Fairley in the 1rst. We addressed the QB situation by drafting Colin Kaepernick at the top of the third. Now we’re going to upgrade the secondary by taking Johnny Patrick out of Louisville.

Patrick caught 5 interceptions his senior season. He was honored on the BIG EAST's first team defense in 2010. He had 51 tackles and 17 passes defended, tying for the conference lead. Johnny started his final 27 games. He amassed 171 total tackles and 9 interceptions over his 4 year career. He ran a 4.53 at the combine and improved that to a 4.46 at his pro day. I think Johnny Patrick is a great value at the bottom of the third round for the Carolina Panthers.
