2011 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft - Round 2 - The New England Patriots Select...

For the No. 60 pick in the second-annual Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, UpstateMike selected for the New England Patriots, who are holding the draft hostage with all of their picks. Here is the pick ...

Quinton Carter - S - Oklahoma

Cutting to the chase, there are not very many quality safeties in this draft. With Rahim Moore already gone, it's time to set up to get shut out of getting one that plays at an NFL level. For the Patriots, they have a pro bowl stud named Brandon Meriweather. Of course, if you have not heard, Bradon "may or may not" have been involved in a Florida shooting just over a month ago. Even if he's found not guilty, these things do not bode well with the hooded one.
Bilichick has a list of what he wants in players. They need to be excellent players, smart, versatile. They need to be leaders and Quinton Carter is all of these things. There are those who have had him and Rahim Moore going back and forth as the #1 safety in the draft. His 40 speed is probably what kept him from the #1 spot, but Carter doesn't lack athletically. He was injured in 2008 and redshirted, but made up for it in both the 2009 and 2010 season. In his senior year, he racked up 92 tackles, 4 interceptions and 5 pass break-ups. Carter was selected as a First Team All-American by AFCA, AP and Sports Illustrated, and All-Big 12 first team by coaches and second team by AP.

"Why the Patriots?: Carter is possibly the most versatile safety in the draft and can be the cover corner that Belichick wants. Hoodie tried Pat Chung at nickelback in some settings, but Chung struggled in coverage. Carter would allow Chung to stay in his SS spot, while also playing FS when he wasn't needed in man coverage. He takes great angles and makes great decisions on and off the field. He's a playmaker with solid hands. He's basically the opposite of Brandon Meriweather- less athletic, much smarter, less reckless, more versatile. His skill set is perfect for the Patriots." - Patspulpit.com

Quinton Carter can play both Strong Safety and Free Safety. He is agile enough to go man to man coverage and readily defends against any receiver he covers. Add that with excellent run-stopping ability while delivering a hard hit, and you have the complete package.
I think there's no way Bilichick lets this kid past him if he is there at #60.
