Will Rackley, G/T, Lehigh

When you think of the Steelers (and I try not too often), they are almost always identified by an outright domination in the trenches. Although their defense is feared and quite famous, their offensive lines are almost never complete garbage. And to be fair, they still aren'tcomplete garbage, but they are far closer than any Steelers fan is comfortable with. Last round Jason didn't want to reach for a tackle, despite the truly pressing need in that department. While understandable, this now leaves the Steelers even more desperately needing help on the offensive line, with even fewer players available who can come in and help right away.

Enter Will Rackley. Identified during the college season last year as a top sleeper prospect, he worked out for 14 teams at Lehigh's pro day. His popularity has been growing and while some are still predicting him as a 3rd or 4th round pick others are saying he's a "definite" second rounder. Maybe he is, and maybe he isn't, but he's one of the best and most versatile linemen available at this point in the draft, and he's noted as having "textbook technique" by at least one analyst, which should enable him to start and contribute early on. Even if he's "supposed" to be a third rounder, considering how many linemen have already gone a "normal" third rounder might well be a late second rounder under these conditions. Regardless, I just can't justify overlooking the need any longer. While he'll almost certainly start at guard in the NFL it's at least possible he could develop into a serviceable tackle in time. Even as a guard, however, he displays a mean streak in run blocking that will be popular in the Steel City, and he's also extremely athletic, so he's likely going to be at least decent as a pulling guard and should also be at fairly good pass protector as well.
