On August 14, 2010, Cincinnati Bengals great running back Ickey Woods' son, Jovante Woods, died of an Asthma attack. Jovante was a stand out football player at Princeton High School and an excellent student, having a 3.8 GPA. He was just 16 years old.
From that point, Ickey and his wife, Chandra, started the Jovante Woods Foundation to help raise money for Asthma research in the hopes that they can help prevent others from having to go through what they have. May is also Asthma Awareness Month, and to kick things off, the Woods' have organized the Jovante Woods Foundation 20Asthma 5K Walk/Run, which will take place on May 7 at the Cincinnati Museum Center.
The event's mission is to bring asthma awareness to the area through screenings, education and to support Cincinnati Children's Asthma Research Division's mission to develop more effective medication to control the disease and ultimately discover a cure.
Registration for the race begins at 7:30 a.m. and the actual race begins at 9. If you'd like more information on the race, you can visit the foundation's website, JovanteWoodsFoundation.org.
