According to NE Patriots Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals have signed Northern Illinois wide receiver Landon Cox. This marks the third rookie wide receiver acquired by the Bengals, which includes Stanford's Ryan Whalen (NFL Draft) and Bart Johnson, who signed earlier on Tuesday. Cox posted 98 career receptions for 1,109 yards receiving and eight touchdowns during his Northern Illinois career. His career year came in 2009 where he recorded 45 receptions for 535 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
On Cox's Northern Illinois page, the wide receiver earned third-team All Mid-American Conference Honors and is often recognized as one of the better blocking wide receivers on the team. From Sports Illustrated's Draft Page:
Positives: "Strong possession receiver with a solid all-around game. Extends his hands away from his frame, looks the ball into his hands, and pulls the pass in the air. Large enough to box out and physically defeat opponents. Gives effort blocking and attacks assignments."
Negatives: Marginal quickness in his game. One-speed receiver who does not get separation downfield.
Analysis: Cox possesses the size and consistency to be a fifth receiver at the next level and could thrive in the red zone or third-down situations.
