The Bengals at one point labeled running back Cedric Benson as their second-highest priority during free agency behind cornerback Johnathan Joseph. Then Benson was arrested for assault, which could invite discipline from the league for violating the league's Personal Conduct Policy, possibly a four-game suspension.
Besides actually contacting Benson's agents, for what could be an exploratory phone call for all we know, the known interest has been limited with reports of any movement even less.
Now according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the Bengals "may still" be interested with re-signing Cedric Benson."

Benson's return was never as critical as Joseph's, even though some would argue that Benson would be a more critical component with so much inexperience on offense, Joseph's departure has a resounding affect.
