The Bengals are continuing to pursue potential linebackers to add to the mix. Injuries to Keith Rivers and Roddrick Muckelroy, combined with the lack of deals for Dhani Jones and Brandon Johnson have forced the team to look for solutions in free agency. Larry Holder at CBS Sports is reporting that the Bengals may be interested in acquiring linebacker Marvin Mitchell. Mitchell was drafted in the 7th round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.

Mitchell, 6-foot-3 and 249 pounds, has proven himself to be a valuable special teams performer and a solid backup linebacker for the New Orleans Saints. Mitchell recorded 43 tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles last year for the Saints.

Pro Football Focus, listing him as one of the best available outside linebackers in 4-3 schemes, writes:

He was the Saints nickel linebacker because he was above average in coverage. However, it was the run plays where he shined with a +5.8 rating.
