Bengals 24 Panthers 10: Orlindo Mare Converts 42-Yard Field Goal

T.Guy unwisely returned the opening kickoff in the second half eight yards deep in the endzone and promptly returns the football to Carolina's 41-yard line. Seems so common we see things like that happen on special teams, especially when the Bengals have momentum. Cam Newton would lead the Panthers down the field, picking up 15 yards on a short pass over the middle to Jeremy Shockey, coupled with an eight-yard scramble by Cam Newton, falling forward like a dead body in a bad zombie movie.

Another reception by Shockey and a four-yard run by Jonathan Stewart on the left edge sets up another first down. Consecutive runs by Stewart sets up a third-and-four from the Bengals 24-yard line with 11:18 left in the third quarter. Cam Newton takes the snap and eases the pass down the left sidelines with Thomas Howard knocking the football away for an incomplete.

Olindo Mare converts a 42-yard field goal to reduce Carolina's deficit to 14 points.
