Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said that running back Cedric Benson and recently acquired cornerback Kelly Jennings will not play during the preseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts, according to a tweet from Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Benson was excused from practices this week to appear in court, which resulted in an agreement for reduced charges after a plea of no contest on both assault charges. Jennings, traded Monday afternoon, arrived at Paul Brown Stadium Tuesday afternoon, leaving only one light practice before the team hosts the Colts Thursday night.
Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap (knee) and defensive tackle Jason Shirley (calf) spent Tuesday's practice working on the side, making them "questionable" while tight end Jermaine Gresham returned to the field.
Starters during the preseason finale are generally limited with their playing time, allowing coaches to give their guys one final rest before the regular season kicks off. It also gives coaches one more look at players before finalizing their 53-man roster, which will be announced less a week from now.
