According to John Kiesewetter of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Cincinnati Bengals hired former radio host and current sports director in Lexington, Alan Cutler to host the pregame, half-time and postgame portions for the Bengals radio network during game days this season. Many of you may remember Cutler taking over the morning slot on Homer (WCKY-AM) when the Two Angry Guys were split up (one of the worst local radio decision I can remember) and Tom Gamble remained once Clear Channel laid off Richard Skinner.
Cutler, who hosted a local sports radio program in the morning, was cut during "a nationwide Clear Channel budget cut", leaving the city of Cincinnati without a local sports radio show, as the station eventually changed affiliations with ESPN to air Mike and Mike In The Morning -- which is enjoyable enough.
Writes Kiesewetter:
"The call came out of the blue. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be back," he says. "I was very surprised and quickly said yes."
For the past two seasons, Channel 5's George Vogel hosted pregame, and colleague Ken Broo did the postgame "Locker Room Report." The Bengals wanted one person to do both.
I'm sure this will be a good year for the Bengals radio network, who will be the only avenue for fans to hear about the team during games that won't be soldout. And we're really only expecting one (Steelers) to sellout.
