Update: Portis Leaves Cincinnati Without a Contract

According to a Tweet from Jason La Confora the Cincinnati Bengals worked out running back Clinton Portis on Tuesday and that the former Washington Redskin is currently taking a physical with the team.

La Confora just updated us on the situation by Tweeting  that Portis left Cincinnati without signing a contract.

Portis, has played nine seasons in the NFL since he was drafted in the second round of the 2002 draft by the Denver Broncos. After two years with the Broncos, he was traded to the Washington Redskins in exchange for Champ Bailey and a second-round draft pick. Portis stayed in Washington from 2004 through the 2010 season.

In his career he has carried the ball 2,230 times for 9,923 yards and 75 touchdowns with a career yards per carry average of 4.4. He has not had a 1,000-yard season or played in all 16 games since the 2008 season.

Bringing Portis to Cincinnati for a workout is in response to Cedric Benson's pending three-game suspension for an offseason assault charge, which Benson is appealing in New York City today.

The Bengals are also working out former Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson on Tuesday as well.
