Comparing Cincy Jungle's Roster Prediction to Joe Reedy's

Here at Cincy Jungle, we have been fortunate to have a nice working relationship with The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy and with Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson. We have shared opinions via email and they have both come on our weekly podcasts to share their opinions about the team.

That doesn't mean that we agree on everything all the time, but for the most part, our opinions on what the team should and shouldn't do match Reedy's and Hobson's.

The Bengals have to get down to 53 players by 6 p.m. today, and they haven't cut anybody yet (or at least they haven't announced any cuts). Early this morning, Joe Reedy wrote up his 53-man roster predictionOur own 53-man roster prediction was close, but the two aren't exactly the same. I thought it would be fun to compare the two.

So, let's start with quarterback.

What we thought:

Quarterback (2): Andy Dalton, Bruce Gradkowski

What Joe thought:

Quarterback (2): Andy Dalton, Bruce Gradkowski

Okay. So far, so good.

Running Backs/Fullback:

What we thought:

Running Back/Fullback (5): Cedric Benson, Bernard Scott, Brian Leonard, Cedric Peerman, Chris Pressley

What Joe thought:

Running Back/Fullback (4): Cedric Benson, Bernard Scott, Brian Leonard, Chris Pressley

We have our first difference. Reedy decided to go with only four running backs, leaving Peerman out. We thought that Peerman was good enough to make the team. We'll have to see where adding the extra running back changes the roster down the line.

Wide receivers:

What we thought:

Wide Receiver (6): A.J. green, Jerome Simpson, Jordan Shipley, Andre Caldwell, Quan Cosby, Ryan Whalen

What Joe thought:

Wide Receiver (6): A.J. Green, Jerome Simpson, Jordan Shipley, Andre Caldwell, Quan Cosby, Ryan Whalen

Alright, back to the same again.

Tight Ends:

What we thought:

Tight Ends (3): Jermaine Gresham, Colin Cochart, Chase Coffman

What Joe thought:

Tight Ends (3): Jermaine Gresham, Colin Cochart, Chase Coffman

We agree again.

Offensive Line:

What we thought:

Offensive Line (9): Tackles - Andrew Whitworth, Andre Smith, Anthony Collins, Dennis Roland; Guards - Bobbie Williams, Nate Livings, Clint Boling; Center - Kyle Cook, Reggie Stephens

What Joe thought:

Offensive Line (9): Tackles - Andrew Whitworth, Andre Smith, Anthony Collins, Dennis Roland; Guards - Nate Livings, Bobbie Williams, Clint boling, Max Jean-Gilles; Center - Kyle Cook

The only difference here is we thought the Bengals would keep Reggie Stephens as a backup center to Kyle Cook, which would squeeze out Max Jean-Gilles. Joe thought the team will keep only one center and have some extra depth at guard.

Defensive Line:

What we thought:

Defensive Line (8): Ends - Carlos Dunlap, Michael Johnson, Robert Geathers, Jonathan Fanene Frostee Rucker; Tackles - Domata Peko, Geno Atkins, Pat Sims

What Joe thought:

Defensive Line (9): Ends - Robert Geathers, Michael Johnson, Carlos Dunlap, Jonathan Fanene, Frostee Rucker; Tackles - Geno Atkins, Domata Peko, Pat Sims, Jason Shirley

This is obviously where the running back difference comes into play. Since Reedy didn't add a fifth running back, he could add an extra defensive tackle -- Jason Shirley.

Linebackers:

What we thought:

Linebackers (7): Rey Maualuga, Brandon Johnson, Thomas Howard, Manny Lawson, Dan Skuta, Dontay Moch, Vincent Rey

What Joe thought:

Linebackers (7): Rey Maualuga, Manny Lawson, Thomas Howard, Brandon Johnson, Dan Skuta, Dontay Moch, Vincent Rey

We agree again.

Defensive Backs:

What we thought:

Defensive Backs (10): Cornerbacks - Leon Hall, Nate Clements, Morgan Trent, Kelly Jennings, Jonathan Wade, Rico Murray; Safety - Chris Crocker, Reggie Nelson, Robert Sands, Taylor Mays

What Joe thought:

Defensive Backs (10): Cornerbacks - Leon Hall, Nate Clements, Kelly Jennings, Morgan Trent, Rico Murray, Jonathan Wade; Safeties - Chris Crocker, Reggie Nelson, Taylor Mays, Robert Sands

And Again.

Special Teams:

What we thought:

Kicker/Punter/Long Snapper: Mike Nugent, Kevin Huber, Clark Harris

What Joe thought:

Kicker/Punter/Long Snapper: Mike Nugent, Kevin Huber, Clark Harris

Really, there were only three differences between Joe Reedy's projected roster and ours. He thought the team would only keep four running backs, cutting Cedric Peerman, and we thought they would keep Peerman for a fifth back. We thought that the team would keep Reggie Stephens as a backup center, Joe thought that they would cut Stephens and keep Max Jean-Gilles as a backup guard instead. And the final difference was at defensive line. Since we kept a fifth back, we only had room for three defensive tackles, Sims, Atkins and Peko. Reedy kept four, adding Shirley.

All in all, though, the two were pretty damn close.
