Per league source, #bengals have released WR Andrew Hawkins but will sign him to the prac. squad if he clears waivers
Hawkins, the younger brother of former Bengals cornerback Artrell Hawkins, was claimed off waivers on August 1. He made his debut as a Bengal in the team's second preseason game against the New York Jets. In that game he caught one pass for 15 yards, the only pass he would catch during the preseason. He spent the majority of his time on special teams as a return specialist, where he looked impressive.
This cut leaves the Bengals with seven wide receivers on the roster -- A.J. Green, Jerome Simpson, Jordan Shipley, Andre Caldwell, Quan Cosby, Ryan Whalen and Calvin Russell. In our 53-man roster prediction, we thought the Bengals would go into the season with six wide receivers -- Green, Simpson, Shipley, Caldwell, Whalen and Cosby.
