Marvin Lewis: Bengals FB Chris Pressley Can Be Third RB If Brian Leonard Is Out

With Brian Leonard missing three practices this week and historical evidence that Cincinnati rarely plays a player missing an entire week worth of practice, it's very probable that Leonard won't play against the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend. In that scenario the Bengals have two active running backs heading into Sunday with a struggling starter in BenJarvus Green-Ellis and special teams ace Cedric Peerman.

Not what you'd call encouraging.

Some speculated that rookie Dan Herron could be called up to the practice squad. However offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said nearly two weeks ago, when Bernard Scott suffered a season-ending injury, that Herron is still developing with "a ways to go."

So will the Bengals sign someone or head into Sunday's game with only two running backs.

Head coach Marvin Lewis told reporters on Friday that if they need someone to carry the football, a third running back if Green-Ellis and Peerman are unavailable, then fullback Chris Pressley can be that guy.

Really.

Pressley currently has two carries in his four-year career, spanning 35 games, with his last attempt during the regular season finale against the Baltimore Ravens... in 2010. He has yet to gain a yard on the ground in his NFL career, though posted a six-yard gain against the Colts in the preseason... in 2009.
