Bengals Players Power Rankings: Week Nine

The Cincinnati Bengals Player Power Rankings is a weekly ranking system that not only figures the best players on the team, but the players playing the best. Despite being out of their control, injuries and inactives are huge hits largely because they're not contributing. This week, we look forward to the 2nd half of the season as Cincinnati looks to rebound after their bye week.

Andy Lyons
Rank Player Last Week Change Notes

1

A.J. Green

1

--

Green had his worst game of the season against the Steelers and still scored a touchdown.

2

Geno Atkins

2

--

I could make a case that Atkins has been better against the run than he's been as a pass rusher this year.

3

Andre Smith

4

+1

He's not the best run blocker or pass protector on the team, but he's the best combination of both. He dominated against the Steelers.

4

Leon Hall

3

-1

Hall was thrown at a few times last week and got lucky because Wallace dropped a couple passes. Hall made an incredible play to deflect a deep pass in the end zone.

5

Andrew Whitworth

6

+1

He's easily the best pass blocker on the team and he's at the most important line position.

6

Andy Dalton

5

-1

Dalton continues to drop in our rankings. He's not seeing the entire field, leaving the pocket early and seems to be freaking out at times. He needs to find a way to shake this off.

7

Michael Johnson

10

+3

Johnson really has become a complete player. He still doesn't have a pass rush move he can consistently rely on, but he's actually pretty good against the run.

8

Reggie Nelson

7

-1

Nelson is the most active defender the Bengals have in the secondary. There's no fear in his game, but that tends to get him in trouble at times.

9

Kevin Zeitler

14

+5

I'm amazed at Zeitler's progress. He's a blast to watch each week. He's the best run blocker on the team already and one of the best in the league.

10

Vontaze Burfict

15

+5

Burfict has added a much needed spark to the LB unit. If he can continue to play under control and aggressive at the same time, he'll surpass his potential.

11

Adam Jones

7

-4

Pacman got picked on a little bit last week, but Antonio Brown is a very tough WR to cover.

12

Mike Nugent

11

-1

He's kicking great, I'd just like to see more consistency on his kick offs; too many big returns from short kicks in recent weeks.

13

Andrew Hawkins

12

-1

You can see Hawkins is wearing down. Less may be more with him. Give Sanu some of his slot snaps and save Hawkins for the gadget stuff.

14

Jermaine Gresham

13

-1

We're still waiting for Gresham's break-through performance.

15

Clint Boling

16

+1

Clint Boling may be the most consistent lineman on the team. Not a mauler or a great pull-blocker but Boling's mistakes are never glaring.

16

Carlos Dunlap

9

-7

Dunlap has been completely invisible for the last 3-4 weeks. He looks healthy, but I have noticed he's been getting chipped and doubled more; all part of being a good pass rusher.

17

Nate Clements

19

+2

Clements has no issue in the passing game but he's still a liability against the run. You'll notice, that's when Crocker enters the game.

18

BenJarvus Green-Ellis

NR

--

BJGE plays best on prime time and he had an OK game against the Steelers.

19

Domata Peko

17

-2

Peko isn't having a great year. He's getting blown off the ball in the run game and isn't playing very physical.

20

Terence Newman

NR

--

Newman has been more good than bad this year. He's been lost in zone and the play of Pacman and Hall has forced offenses to pick on Newman.

Just Missed the Cut: Rey Maualuga, Manny Lawson, Kevin Huber, Cedric Peerman, Devon Still
