The Bengals announced on Monday that they signed undrafted free agent center Scott Wedige of the University of Northern Illinois to the team's practice squad and they released rookie fullback Jourdan Brooks, an undrafted free agent out of Morgan State. The move was likely made due to the recent injuries to both Jeff Faine and rookie Trevor Robinson.
Wedige, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 310 pounds, was signed originally on May 11 by the Arizona Cardinals and played in the team's five preseason games, but waived on August 1. He was then signed to the New York Giants practice squad on September 8, but was waived on September 17. Brooks, who was waved to make room for the new center had been on the team's practice squad since September 1.
The move was likely a response to the poor play of Faine and Robinson and could just be a failsafe if both of their hamstring injuries are going to keep them sidelined.
