The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Friday that they've placed kicker Mike Nugent on Injured Reserve; the second time in three seasons that Nugent has ended his season prematurely. In 2010 it was a torn knee during an onside kick against the Indianapolis Colts. This year he suffered a calf injury during practice earlier this month while practicing onside kicks. Lesson: Stop onside kicks!
The Bengals signed Josh Brown earlier this month, who has converted eight of nine field goals in three games played, including a game-winning 43-yard field goal against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week that clinched a postseason berth. And the one field goal he missed was an inadvisable 56-yard attempt on a field that rarely accommodates 50-yard field goals.
Taking Nugent's spot on the 53-man roster is cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris, called up from the practice squad for the second time this year, realistically replacing Dre Kirkpatrick who went on Injured Reserve earlier this week.
