According to Jets beat writer for the New York Daily News, Manish Mehta, Bengals free agent safety Reggie Nelson is done with his visit in New York and the Jets have made him an offer. According to Mehta, Nelson will be making a decision within 24 hours.
Reggie Nelson is weighing offer now. He will make a decision within 24 hours. In addition to Jets & Bengals, he's had interest from 3rd tm
Nelson is considered the team's most important free agent to re-sign heading into the 2012 season. However, judging by the way the team was willing to let both Jonathan Fanene and Frostee Rucker go to new teams without putting up much of a fight, they may not fight very hard to keep Nelson in stripes.
The Jets and Bengals both need free safeties and Nelson had a solid season at free safety in Cincinnati in 2011. If they are able to keep him in 2012 and beyond, they will still need to address a possible replacement for Chris Crocker at strong safety, but without him they may need to find replacements at both safety positions.
So, who's it going to be? The Queen City or the Big Apple?
We'll keep you posted.
