With the 31st pick in the 2012 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, Anthony Knox selected for the New England Patriots, who earned their pick by finishing the 2011 season with 13-3 record and then making it all the way to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the New York Giants.

With the No. 31 pick in the 2012 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, the New England Patriots select...

Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska

This pick is the second pick of Round #1 for New England, and the interval between picks isn't all that different from what we are all looking at as Bengal fans, as Cincinnati has #17 and #21, while NE has #27 and #31. So many of the discussions out there are not all that different from discussions that Bengal fans read about....do you go defense twice? Free agency for this position, then pick these two? Things like that....

So this meant looking at the New England depth chart, and where are they needing help most? This is always challenging for a Super Bowl team, but NE really isn't a defensive juggernaut, while on offense, it looks more like a hole here, and a hole there. The Pats went with a DE/OLB with pick #27 in Andre Branch, so ultimately it felt like an opportunity to bolster the inferior unit by taking a Round 1 corner to go with that pass rusher. Other considerations were Stephen Hill (WR-Ga. Tech) and Doug Martin (RB-Boise St.), but defense was what needed more help. As usual, a huge WHO DEY to one and all...

Alfonzo Dennard Highlights:

Joe Goodberry's Instant Analysis:

Easily the worst pick of the first round. The Patriots won't get a pass from me here. They reached for a player in a very deep CB draft. Dennard is a press CB and would be better in a zone scheme - a good fit for the Pats - in the 2nd/3rd round. The Patriots have needs at RB, WR, S, CB and DL. Even if Dennard plays FS, it's a reach.
