Kicker Mike Nugent Signs Franchise Tender

According to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Bengals place kicker Mike Nugent will sign his franchise tender today. The franchise tag, which will be worth $2.65 million in 2012, was placed on Nugent in early March. Both the Bengals and Nugent still hope to ink a long term contract.

At the time of the tagging, opinion was split on whether to use the franchise tag on Mike Nugent or, instead, use the tag on then free agent safety Reggie Nelson. However, the argument became irrelevant when Nelson signed a long term deal on March 19.

Nugent has had his fair share of struggles in the NFL since injuring his leg in 2008, however, he seems to have found a home in Cincinnati. For the Bengals in 2011, Nugent successfully kicked 33 field goals in 38 attempts--an 86.8%.
