Running Back Cedric Peerman Hosts Football Camp, Talks About The Upcoming Season

In the off-time between the end of OTAs and the beginning of training camp, many NFL players around the country will return to their hometowns to host their own football camp, supporting local youth football in their area. Carlos Dunlap and Jordan Shipley each hosted their own event last week, and players like Brian Leonard, Michael Johnson, and Mohamed Sanu have been making appearances at other camps.

This week, running back Cedric Peerman decided to hold his own football camp in his hometown of Lynchburg, Virginia. He invited along the Jaguars' third-year RB Rashad Jennings, and former NFLer's Antico Dalton, Percell Gaskins, Don Sasa, and Charles Mincy.

The event was titled the Faith, Family, & Sports Football Camp. Peerman is actually a licensed minister, and even went by the nickname the "Running Reverend" while playing college football at the University of Virginia.

He wasn't a superstar running back in college, but he did enough to be drafted by the Ravens in the 6th round in 2009. He bounced around with the league, stopping at with the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions, before emerging as a devastating force on special teams with the Cincinnati Bengals. His most memorable play was this huge block during a punt return in the Indianapolis Colts game.

Peerman has been with the Bengals since April 27, 2010. He has made only 5 carries in his career with the Bengals, but he's not worried about touching the ball, he just wants to help the team in any way he can.

"I'm just trying to be a valuable guy out there, just special teams, just fulfill my role there I developed last year and if there's some carries there that's great, if not I just have to bide my time and just continue to work hard, and be in the best shape of my life come the end of July."

Peerman grew up in the state of Virginia, where most people are Washington Redskins fans. That means that this year's week 3 matchup at the Redskins' Fedex Field will be particularly memorable for him, when many of his family and friends will attend.

"I've had several people ask about that game. My pastor, he's a big time Washington Redskins fan so it's so close, everyone wants to come so hopefully we can accommodate everyone."

But before Peerman can make it to that game, he needs to beat out this year's 6th round draft pick Boom Herron, and an intriguing 230-pound undrafted player named Jourdan Brooks for the team's final running back spot. Peerman is a fast and strong runner, but Boom Herron may be the better all around running back at this point. If Boom can come close to what Peerman gives on special teams, his greater potential as a running back may be enough to unseat Peerman in final roster cuts.
