Since the beginning of May, the Raiders have reportedly been interested in Cedric Benson. According to ESPN AFC West blogger Bill Williamson, Benson may have to wait a little bit longer before he becomes a Raider. Williamson writes that there are no indications that Benson will be signed in the near future:

"Buckle in, it could take some time. There are no indications his signing with any team is imminent. "

There has been no reported interest in Benson from any team other than Oakland. It is possible that Benson could be waiting for an injury to occur in training camp. However, it would make sense for both Benson and the Raiders to agree to a deal. Benson would fill a void left by Michael Bush, as he signed with the Bears in March. Starting running back Darren McFadden has also been inflicted with injuries throughout his career. Oakland's current backup running backs Mike Goodson and Taiwan Jones are unproven. Benson would have to be comfortable playing second fiddle to McFadden. Benson seems to run better when he gets a lot of carries throughout the game. But if he can be content with starting the season as a backup, the Raiders will have themselves a solid insurance policy.
