Former Bengals Defensive Tackle (Offensive Guard) Jason Shirley Signs With The Colts

The Indianapolis Colts signed former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle (and part-time offensive guard) Jason Shirley on Thursday, according to a tweet by team owner Jim Irsay.

Shirley, a former Bengals fifth-round pick during the 2008 NFL Draft, played three games during his career in Cincinnati (all in 2008). He switched to the offensive line in 2009, but signed onto the team's practice squad after playing all four preseason games. An Achilles injury during a basketball game on April 2010 prevented medical clearance before training camp and he was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List after clearing waivers. Shirley was eventually released following final cuts in 2011 and didn't return.

Seattle signed him for five days in mid-October and the Panthers eventually placed Shirley onto the practice squad in early November before a promotion to the 53-man roster where he played four games, generating 2.5 quarterback sacks and a forced fumble.
